Ornellaia 2004 in a 6 L bottle
This is a 6 L bottle of Ornellaia 2004, the flagship red of Tenuta dell’Ornellaia, from the Bolgheri appellation on the Tuscan coast. It is a dry red of the Bolgheri DOC. The blend is Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

What a 6 L bottle means
Six litres is the volume of eight standard 0.75 L bottles, a large format that suits a table of guests or a collection.

Why a large format suits Ornellaia
Ornellaia is a Bordeaux-style red, and the 6 L bottle is its large-format version. It is poured once for a gathering or kept whole. The wine is dry, so the large format changes the volume and the occasion, not the style of the wine.

The estate behind the label
Tenuta dell’Ornellaia also makes Le Serre Nuove, its second wine since 1997, and Le Volte, made since 1991. Masseto, a Merlot from a 7 ha vineyard first made in 1986, began at the estate and is now made by a separate team. Ornellaia is the flagship among these, and this 2004 is the flagship red from the 2004 harvest.
Made before Frescobaldi became sole owner
The estate has been fully owned by the Frescobaldi family since April 2005, so the 2004 harvest was made before that change. The estate sits in Tuscany.
Our suggested drinking window
