Ornellaia 2000: a mature Bolgheri red from the 2000 harvest

Ornellaia 2000 is the flagship red of Tenuta dell’Ornellaia from the 2000 harvest, in a 0.75 L bottle. It carries the Bolgheri DOC designation and is a dry red built on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Ornellaia is the estate’s flagship Bordeaux-style red blend.

Who owned Ornellaia in 2000

Marchese Lodovico Antinori founded the estate in 1981, and the first Ornellaia vintage was 1985. Robert Mondavi Winery took a minority stake in November 1999, the year before this harvest. In February 2002 Mondavi brought the Frescobaldi family in as 50-50 partners, and Frescobaldi bought the remaining half on 1 April 2005. Constellation Brands had acquired The Robert Mondavi Corporation on 22 December 2004. The 2000 was therefore made before Frescobaldi became sole owner. The estate’s other wines include Le Serre Nuove, its second wine since 1997, and Le Volte, made since 1991. Masseto, a Merlot from a 7 ha vineyard first made in 1986, also began at the estate and is now made by a separate team.
