Ornellaia is the estate’s flagship Bordeaux-style red. The 2009 combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

Bolgheri Superiore 2009 on the vintage chart
The Robert Parker Wine Advocate vintage chart gives Bolgheri Superiore 2009 a score of 97, with the letter R, which stands for ready to drink. That score describes the vintage in the appellation as a whole.
Our suggested window of 2014 to 2029 means the bottles are inside it today. With the window running to 2029, the six bottles can be spread over the next few years.

The estate today
The estate farms 99 hectares across two sites, Ornellaia and Bellaria, at 50 to 120 metres above sea level. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot each cover 38 hectares, Cabernet Franc 12 and Petit Verdot 7, plus about 4 hectares of white varieties. The soils are marine, alluvial and volcanic.
Who made it and under which owner
Lodovico Antinori founded the estate in 1981, and the first Ornellaia vintage was 1985. Robert Mondavi Winery took a minority stake in November 1999, and the Frescobaldi family became 50-50 partners in February 2002. Frescobaldi bought the remaining half on 1 April 2005, so the 2009 was made under full Frescobaldi ownership.
The estate’s other wines include Le Volte, made since 1991, and Le Serre Nuove, the second wine, made since 1997.
