A Frescobaldi-owned vintage: Ornellaia 2008

The 2008 was made under full Frescobaldi ownership: the family bought the remaining half of the estate on 1 April 2005, after joining as 50-50 partners in 2002. Lodovico Antinori founded the estate in 1981, and the first Ornellaia vintage was 1985. Robert Mondavi Winery took a minority stake in 1999.

Ornellaia’s 99 hectares: what is planted

The estate farms 99 hectares across the Ornellaia and Bellaria sites, at 50 to 120 metres above sea level, on marine, alluvial and volcanic soils. Current plantings are 38 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, 38 of Merlot, 12 of Cabernet Franc and 7 of Petit Verdot, alongside small plots of Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and Petit Manseng for the estate’s white wines. These are today’s figures for the estate, not a breakdown of the 2008 blend.
