La Tâche: a monopole of the estate

La Tâche is a monopole: the estate owns the whole 6.06 ha appellation. It acquired the vineyard in 1933. In 1932 it had applied for the vineyard then called “Les Gaudichots ou La Tâche” to be classed simply as La Tâche. The Liger-Belair family, owners of the original La Tâche, opposed the request and lost, and later sold their vines to the estate. The appellation was first recognised by the decree of 11 September 1936.

Who made La Tâche in 1971

The Société Civile du Domaine de la Romanée-Conti was constituted on 31 July 1942, nine years after it acquired La Tâche. La Tâche is a Grand Cru in Burgundy, and the estate owns all 6.06 ha of it. The estate makes roughly 12,000 to 25,000 bottles of La Tâche a year. It has farmed its vineyards organically since 1985 and holds Biodyvin certification, and it replants with its own selection of Pinot Noir, propagated from the old vines of the Romanée-Conti vineyard.
