Échezeaux in the Domaine’s vineyards

The estate owns 4.67 ha of Échezeaux, which is not a monopole, so other growers also make wines under the name. Jacques-Marie Duvault-Blochet already owned vines here when he bought Romanée-Conti in 1869. The appellation was first recognised by the decree of 31 July 1937. Flagey-Échezeaux has two grand crus, Échezeaux and Grands Échezeaux, and the estate holds parcels in both; its Grands Échezeaux holding is 3.53 ha, smaller than its Échezeaux holding. The estate bottles between 8,878 bottles (2013) and 18,589 bottles (2009) of Échezeaux a year over 2009–2019, with none bottled in 2016. Whole clusters never make up less than 60% of its red fermentations, and reach 100% in some vintages.

The Échezeaux holding within the estate

The estate covers 28 ha, of which 26.30 ha are grand cru vineyards, so its Échezeaux is one part of that grand cru land. The grand crus of the Côte de Nuits lie in six communes, and Flagey-Échezeaux is one of them.
