Chambertin 2006 on the Robert Parker Wine Advocate vintage chart

Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2006 by Domaine Philippe Charlopin

Charmes-Chambertin is a Grand Cru of 28.97 ha (2008) in Gevrey-Chambertin, filed under Chambertin, Cote de Nuits. It received AOC status in 1937, and neighbouring Mazoyères-Chambertin may legally be bottled under the Charmes-Chambertin name. The village took the Chambertin suffix in 1847, when a royal ordinance of King Louis-Philippe allowed Gevrey to add it.

This 2006 is a red Pinot Noir, sold in a 0.75 L bottle.

Philippe Charlopin’s Charmes-Chambertin

The estate began in 1977 on 1.5 ha of vines in Gevrey-Chambertin. Philippe Charlopin trained under Henri Jayer, and the domaine now farms 25 ha across the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and Chablis. Charmes-Chambertin is one of its grand cru wines, alongside Chambertin, Mazis-Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot, Clos Saint-Denis, Bonnes-Mares, Échezeaux and Corton-Charlemagne. The listing title reads Domaine Philippe Charlopin-Parizot: the estate’s operating company is registered as SAS Domaine Philippe Charlopin Parizot, the name used in some wine listings.

Harvest is by hand, with sorting before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The wines are aged in French oak, with the share of new oak adjusted by vintage. The estate’s standard élevage is 18 months.
