Mouton 1988: the year Baron Philippe died and Philippine took over
A first growth from Pauillac, 38 years after the harvest, Wine Advocate 89/100 and inside our suggested drinking window of 2014 to 2037. Baron Philippe de Rothschild died in 1988, and his daughter, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, inherited the estate that year.

Mouton Rothschild: second growth in 1855, first growth since 1973
The château lies in the commune of Pauillac in the Médoc, Bordeaux. In the 1855 classification Mouton was ranked a second growth. A decree of 21 June 1973, signed by Jacques Chirac as Minister of Agriculture, promoted it to Premier Cru, the only promotion ever made to that classification. The estate motto since then reads “Premier je suis, second je fus, Mouton ne change”.
This wine is made from four varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The vineyard is planted to 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot.
