It is a blend of young vines from the estate’s grand cru holdings, bottled as Vosne-Romanée premier cru. The Vosne-Romanée rules allow wine from the grand cru areas to carry that label without naming a climat.

Which grand cru vineyards the label covers

The rules name the grands crus whose delimited areas may be sold as Vosne-Romanée premier cru without a climat: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Échezeaux and Grands-Échezeaux. The estate owns the whole of the Romanée-Conti grand cru, 1.81 ha, and apart from this wine all of its bottlings come from grand cru vineyards. For the 2021 and 2022 vintages, most of the cuvée came from young La Tâche vines.

Where the name comes from

The cuvée is named after Jacques-Marie Duvault-Blochet (1789–1874), who bought the Romanée-Conti vineyard in 1869. In the 1930s, in great vintages, the estate sold wines from young vines under this label. It revived the cuvée with the 1999 vintage, and the 1999 was made from a second picking in all vineyards except Romanée-Conti.
