The 2021 Chambertin from Domaine Armand Rousseau is a red Pinot Noir from one of the Grand Cru appellations of Gevrey-Chambertin. It comes in a 0.75 L bottle.

Chambertin was created as an appellation on 31 July 1937 for red wine from Pinot Noir. In 2022 it has 13.14 ha in production, with an average of 449 hl, about 59,700 bottles, a year over 2017–2021.

Rousseau’s Chambertin parcels and cellar work

The domaine holds 2.55 ha in Chambertin. The wine comes from three east-facing parcels and a fourth, called Larrey, at the edge of the woods, which can only be worked with a horse and plough.

Across all its vineyards, the average vine age is about 40 to 45 years, with 11,000 vines per hectare. About 90% of its grapes are destemmed. After pressing, the wine goes by gravity into oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation happens naturally. Chambertin is aged in 100% new oak, and all of the estate’s wines spend 18 months in barrel with two rackings before bottling, usually in April.
