Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 2005 from Domaine Armand Rousseau

The 2005 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze comes from a Grand Cru in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin, in Burgundy. The appellation was created on 31 July 1937 for red wine from Pinot Noir. Domaine Armand Rousseau is a family estate based in Gevrey-Chambertin.

The Clos de Bèze parcels of Armand Rousseau

The domaine holds 1.42 ha in Clos de Bèze, in two parcels, the larger in the upper part of the Clos. The soils there are stony and high in limestone, with Bathonian clay-limestone at the top and Bajocian crinoidal limestone and marl halfway down. The whole appellation has 15 ha in production.

The land was given to the monks of the Abbey of Bèze in 630, and the Clos is still enclosed by old stone walls. Charles Rousseau added Clos de Bèze parcels to the domaine after taking it over in 1959.

The estate ages Clos de Bèze in 100% new oak barrels on average, and all of its wines for 18 months. About 90% of the grapes are destemmed.
