Aux Reignots is a small holding: the Cathiard domaine owns about 0.25 ha of this Premier Cru in Vosne-Romanée, a share of the climat rather than all of it, and the 2008 comes from those vines. The grape is Pinot Noir, the only variety the estate plants. It is a dry red wine.

Domaine Sylvain Cathiard et Fils is a family estate in the Côte de Nuits that goes back to Alfred Cathiard, who bought his first plot in Vosne-Romanée in 1930. André was the first to bottle under the family name, and Sylvain took over from him in 1995. His son Sébastien has run the domaine since 2011.

Destemmed, long-vatted, unfined: the Cathiard method

Grapes are 100% destemmed and given a pre-fermentation maceration, with total vatting of up to 30 days. The wines then spend about 18 months in oak and are bottled without fining.

For Premier and Grand Cru wines, new oak runs between 50–60% and two-thirds. The vines stand on limestone with a marl-rich clay overlay, and the estate farms them organically without certification.
