The Côte de Nuits slope behind the village

The village lies in the Côte de Nuits, the Burgundy hillside that runs from Dijon in the north to Corgoloin in the south and produces mainly red wines. Along the Côte, vineyard soils are thin and mostly calcareous, leaner at the top of the slope and deeper on the piedmont.

2007: an early-drinking Côte de Nuits year

On the Robert Parker Wine Advocate vintage chart, red wines of the Côte de Nuits in 2007 score 91 and carry the letter E, which the chart defines as early maturing and accessible. The chart describes the vintage as a whole, not this bottle.

A Gevrey-Chambertin family estate, 3 to 13 hectares

Edmond Geantet and Bernadette Pansiot founded the estate in 1954 with 3 hectares. It reached 7 hectares by 1977, when Vincent Geantet joined, and 13 hectares by 2006, the year his son Fabien arrived. The estate is based in Gevrey-Chambertin.

The vineyards are ploughed and receive no herbicides, and the estate does not claim to be organic. Grapes are picked by hand and sorted, and fermentation runs on indigenous yeasts. As of 2015 the estate destemmed fully, held a 10-day cool maceration at 10°C and gave about 13–14 months of elevage in 30–40% new oak.
