Hautes Côtes de Beaune: vines at 290–485 m
The Hautes Côtes de Beaune vines grow on south- and southeast-facing valley slopes at 290 to 485 m above sea level. That is 100 to 200 m higher than the vineyards of the Côte de Beaune itself. This altitude makes ripening and harvest about one week later on average.
The Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune production area covers 29 villages. The Côte de Beaune as a whole is 20 km long from north to south, and its vineyards are never more than a few hundred metres wide. The Côte de Beaune vineyards face the morning sun.
On the Côte de Beaune, the vineyards around the town of Beaune are mainly planted with Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay from Meursault southwards.

The appellation on this label is Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune. The separate AOC Côte de Beaune is limited to the commune of Beaune, and only about 30 ha of it are in production, 17.34 ha of it white. AOC Côte de Beaune dates from 31 July 1937. The Hautes Côtes vineyards sit on higher valley slopes across many villages.
