Clos de Tart Grand Cru Monopole 2002 from a single 7.53 ha vineyard
Clos de Tart Grand Cru Monopole 2002 is a red wine made from 100% Pinot Noir in a single enclosed vineyard of 7.53 ha in Morey-Saint-Denis. The vineyard has never been divided and has always belonged to one owner at a time. It is sold as a 0.75 L bottle from Domaine du Clos de Tart.

Morey-Saint-Denis and the Clos de Tart monopole
Clos de Tart is a Grand Cru monopole, the largest in Burgundy. It is one of five Grand Cru appellations in the commune, alongside Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint-Denis, Clos des Lambrays and part of Bonnes-Mares. The appellation sits in the Côte de Nuits, which holds 24 grand cru appellations in six communes.
The plot measures about 300 m by 250 m and is enclosed by a dry-stone wall of 1.2 km, restored in 2006. It lies mid-slope at 269 to 302 m with a south-easterly aspect, on clay-limestone soil that has more limestone low on the slope and more marl higher up.
Today the vines average about 60 years old, and some are over 100. The vineyard is divided into twelve subplots that are harvested separately.

Clos de Tart from Tart Abbey (1141) to the Pinault family
Cistercian nuns of Tart Abbey, a dependency of Cîteaux, founded the vineyard in 1141. Claude Marey bought it in 1791, and Henri Mommessin bought it at auction in 1932. The Clos de Tart AOC was granted in 1939. Artémis Domaines, the holding of the Pinault family, agreed to buy it from the Mommessin family in October 2017, with the sale closing in early 2018.
