Category: Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France, Grand Cru, Pinot Noir, Red, Wine

Richebourg Grand Cru 2005 from a 98-point Côte de Nuits vintage
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg Grand Cru 2005 comes from a vintage that the Robert Parker Wine Advocate chart scores 98 for red Côte de Nuits. The wine is made from Pinot Noir and carries the Grand Cru classification.
The 98 is the Wine Advocate’s rating for red Côte de Nuits 2005 as a whole, not a score for this wine.

Richebourg in the DRC range
The estate owns 3.51 ha of Richebourg. It is not a monopole, so other growers also make Richebourg. The appellation was first recognised by the decree of 11 September 1936, and the vineyard lies in the commune of Vosne-Romanée.
Jacques-Marie Duvault-Blochet already owned vines in Richebourg when he bought Romanée-Conti in 1869. The estate’s published harvest records give between 6,809 bottles (2013) and 15,742 bottles (2009) of Richebourg per vintage for 2009–2019.

How the estate farms its vines
The vineyards have been farmed organically since 1985. The estate trialled biodynamic methods from 1990 to 2006, adopted them across the estate afterwards, and obtained Biodyvin certification in 2016. As of 2020, part of the estate is ploughed with horses.
The estate replants with its own selection of Pinot Noir, propagated from the old vines of the Romanée-Conti vineyard. In 2005, some 50–60 genetically distinct vines had been identified there as source material.

Vosne-Romanée and the Côte de Nuits grands crus
The Côte de Nuits is a hillside of limestone soils, thin and well drained, that runs about 20 km from Dijon to Corgoloin. It holds 24 grand cru appellations in six communes; Vosne-Romanée, where Richebourg lies, is one of those communes. The Côte de Nuits produces mainly red wines, from Pinot Noir. For a wider view, see the Burgundy selection.
