Côte de Nuits 2014 on the Robert Parker Wine Advocate vintage chart

Grands-Échezeaux 2014: the estate’s largest bottling of 2009–2019

The estate’s harvest records list 15,308 bottles of Grands-Échezeaux for the 2014 vintage, the highest figure among its 2009–2019 vintages (2016 was not bottled). Robert Parker Wine Advocate rates it 94/100.

The wine is red, dry and made from Pinot Noir. Our suggested drinking window is 2019 to 2039, so the wine is inside it now. The window opened in 2019, five years after the vintage, and runs for twenty years.

Flagey-Échezeaux and the estate’s 3.53 hectares

Grands-Échezeaux is one of two grand crus of the commune of Flagey-Échezeaux, the other being Échezeaux. The appellation was first recognised by the decree of 31 July 1937. It is not a monopole: the estate owns about 3.53 ha. The estate’s other grand cru in the commune, Échezeaux, covers 4.67 ha.

Jacques-Marie Duvault-Blochet already owned vines here when he bought Romanée-Conti in 1869.

Organic and biodynamic farming at the estate

The estate has farmed organically since 1985. It trialled biodynamic methods from 1990 to 2006 and then adopted them across the estate.
