Rieussec in Fargues, next to Yquem

The estate lies in the commune of Fargues, at the junction with Sauternes, and borders Château d’Yquem to the west. Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) has owned it since 1984. Rieussec was classified Premier Cru Classé in 1855, a rank it shares with Suduiraut and Guiraud.

In a normal year the harvest runs from September to November over 6 to 8 weeks, in successive selections by ripeness and noble rot. Each batch is pressed separately and fermented in new oak barrels. The estate farms 85 ha. The Château Rieussec 2001 was named Wine of the Year in 2004.
