Pape Clément: Archbishop’s name, Magrez ownership and the white vineyard
The estate takes its name from Bertrand de Goth, Archbishop of Bordeaux, who was elected Pope Clement V in 1305. Bernard Magrez has run it since 1985.
The white covers about 10 ha of the vineyard. Its soil is clayey gravel of Pyrenean origin, laid down in the late Pliocene and early Quaternary.
The estate’s red was ranked Cru Classé de Graves in 1959; the white was not part of that classification.
