The Clos behind the Grand Vin
The Grand Vin comes mainly from the Clos Léoville Las Cases, a walled plot on the road from Saint-Julien village to Pauillac. The Grand Clos covers close to 50 hectares and borders Château Latour. The terroir is Quaternary gravel over gravelly-sand and gravelly-clay subsoils, with an average vine age of 52 years and 8,600 vines per hectare.

From one Léoville estate to three
The name goes back to a single Léoville estate, split up after the Revolution. Hugh Barton founded Léoville-Barton from part of it in 1826, and the 1840 division between Pierre-Jean de Las Cases and his sister Jeanne produced today’s Léoville-Las Cases. Jean-Hubert Delon has run it since his father Michel Delon died in 2000.
