Léoville-Las Cases 2005: the Grand Vin from a Saint-Julien Second Growth
The 2005 vintage of Léoville-Las Cases is the estate’s Grand Vin, sold here as a 0.75 L bottle. It is made from three grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

The Clos Léoville Las Cases next to Latour
Château Léoville-Las Cases lies in Saint-Julien, in the Médoc, and was classified a Second Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux classification. The Grand Vin comes mainly from the Clos Léoville Las Cases, the walled plot on the road from Saint-Julien village to Pauillac. The Clos has Quaternary gravel over gravelly-sand and gravelly-clay subsoils. The walled Grand Clos covers close to 50 hectares and borders Château Latour in Pauillac.
The Léoville estate was divided in stages: Hugh Barton took a portion in 1826, and in 1840 the division between Pierre-Jean de Las Cases and his sister Jeanne created today’s Léoville-Las Cases. Léoville-Barton and Léoville-Poyferré are separate estates with separate owners. Michel Delon directed Las Cases from 1976 to 2000, and his son Jean-Hubert Delon took over after Michel’s death in 2000, so the 2005 was made under Jean-Hubert Delon.
