ROBERT PARKER ” Proprietor Denis Durantou has produced a blockbuster Pomerol from a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, tipping the scales at just over 14.5% natural alcohol. A riveting wine, pure, elegant, but at the same time, extremely powerful and concentrated, with stunning texture, opulence and density, the tannins are abundant, and the wine certainly in need of a decade of cellaring. Fabulous creme de cassis and cherry liqueur notes are intertwined with hints of licorice, truffle, and graphite. Full and rich, but still in an infantile state of development, this wine needs to be cellared for 10 years but should keep for five decades or more. This 2009 is absolutely profound. “

Overview

From the prestigious vineyards of Pomerol, the Chateau L’Eglise-Clinet 2009 is a benchmark of Bordeaux excellence and rarity. This 2009 vintage, housed uniquely in a 6-bottle original wooden case (6OWC), epitomizes exceptional craftsmanship and offers discerning collectors an investment-grade addition to their portfolio. Celebrated for its intense depth and velvety complexity, this estate’s limited production ensures exclusivity and secure appreciation in value. Discover an extraordinary wine that seamlessly combines terroir heritage with outstanding aging potential.

Key Features & Benefits

Produced from meticulously hand-harvested Merlot grapes—the hallmark varietal of Pomerol—this 2009 vintage undergoes traditional fermentation and aging in new French oak barrels for 18 months, ensuring rich texture and nuanced layers of flavor. The estate’s rigorous selection process and biodynamic vineyard management reflect in the wine’s purity and aromatic precision.

Compared to other Pomerol wines, Chateau L’Eglise-Clinet 2009 stands out with its more structured tannins and profound minerality, granting collectors a rare sensory experience and a wine that promises both immediate enjoyment and long-term cellar-worthy refinement.

Heritage & Collectibility

Rooted deeply in Bordeaux’s illustrious history, Chateau L’Eglise-Clinet maintains a legacy of producing premier cru wines, with the 2009 vintage marking one of its more celebrated modern editions. The availability of the 6-bottle original wooden case format significantly limits circulation, elevating its market desirability among seasoned collectors.

As global demand for Pomerol’s storied terroir increases, this release is positioned strongly as an investment-grade asset, consistently appreciating and sought-after in secondary markets.

Sensory Profile & Usage

Expect a bouquet of black cherry, cassis, and subtle truffle notes on the nose, unfolding into a palate rich with dark plum, espresso, and hints of graphite. The finish is long, silky, and mineral-driven, embodying the terroir’s unique expression.

For optimal enjoyment, decant for at least one hour before serving at 16-18°C. Store horizontally in a humidity-controlled environment to preserve its evolving complexity. Pair it with fine lamb, game birds, or aged cheeses to fully experience its layered elegance and depth.
