Vérité La Joie 2007: 68% Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma County

The 2007 Vérité La Joie is a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot and 4% Malbec. Harvest ran from 4 to 27 September 2007. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot together make up 83% of the blend, and Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec the remaining 17%. Sold as a 0.75 L bottle.

La Joie is the Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine of the three Vérité makes; the other two are La Muse and Le Désir. Vérité was founded in 1998 by Jess Jackson and the French vigneron Pierre Seillan, who met in 1995. The winery is owned by Jackson Family Wines and is located near Healdsburg. Our suggested drinking window is 2011 to 2041, so the wine is inside it now.

The 2007 season

The 2007 season began with a mild winter with below-average rainfall and a dry spring that brought early budbreak. Temperatures then stayed consistent through the season.

Many small lots, four appellations

Each Vérité blend is built from more than 50 micro-crus, which are harvested and fermented separately. They lie across Alexander Valley, Chalk Hill, Bennett Valley and Knights Valley, and each is aged in French oak barrels with custom toasts.

The label reads Sonoma County, in California. The micro-crus come from four appellations (Alexander Valley, Chalk Hill, Bennett Valley and Knights Valley), so the wine is not from a single vineyard or a single AVA.
