Aux Brûlées 2021: the Wine Advocate chart for the 2021 vintage
The Wine Advocate vintage chart marks red Côte de Nuits 2021 with the letter E, meaning early maturing and accessible, and a score of 92. That describes the vintage across the area, not this bottle. This 2021 is a dry red Pinot Noir, a 1er Cru from the Côte de Nuits, in a 0.75 L bottle. Domaine Méo-Camuzet holds parcels in the Vosne-Romanée premier crus Cros Parantoux, Aux Brûlées and Les Chaumes, and this bottle is the Aux Brûlées from the 2021 vintage, sold in a 0.75 L bottle.

Henri Jayer and the Méo-Camuzet vineyards
In 1945 Étienne Camuzet entrusted most of the estate’s vineyards to Henri Jayer under a sharecropping (métayage) agreement, which ended in 1987. The estate is at 11, rue des Grands Crus in Vosne-Romanée.
Jean-Nicolas Méo returned to Vosne-Romanée in 1989 and worked with Jayer for about ten years, more closely in the first years.
Jayer also revived Cros Parantoux, the Vosne-Romanée premier cru, by clearing and planting it after the war. Cros Parantoux is made in roughly 600 to 1,200 bottles a year. Jayer and Emmanuel Rouget are named as its owners, so the estate does not hold the whole site.

Oak and harvest at Méo-Camuzet
At Méo-Camuzet, the wines age for 15 to 18 months in oak barrels, with 50 to 100% new oak depending on the cuvée, so the share of new wood changes from one bottling to the next. The grapes are hand-harvested and sorted at the vine, and the estate uses whole-cluster fermentation selectively, depending on the vintage.
