Au Cros Parantoux 2007: a Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru from Méo-Camuzet

Cros Parantoux in the Méo-Camuzet range

The estate makes three Vosne-Romanée premier cru parcel wines: Cros Parantoux, Aux Brûlées and Les Chaumes. Cros Parantoux is made in quantities of roughly 600 to 1,200 bottles a year.

Cros Parantoux lies just south of the estate’s larger Richebourg plot, Les Verroilles ou Richebourg. The site is shared: Henri Jayer and Emmanuel Rouget are named as owners there alongside Méo-Camuzet’s parcels.

Henri Jayer also worked the estate’s other vineyards: in 1945 Étienne Camuzet entrusted most of them to him under a sharecropping (métayage) agreement, which ended in 1987. Jayer made the estate’s Richebourg vintages from 1985 to 1988, and Jean-Nicolas Méo worked with him for about ten years after arriving in 1989.

How Méo-Camuzet makes its reds

The estate hand-harvests and sorts grapes at the vine. Whole-cluster fermentation is used selectively, depending on the vintage, and wines age 15 to 18 months in oak barrels, with new oak between 50 and 100% depending on the cuvée. The estate uses cold maceration before fermentation and bottles without filtration.
