Messorio: Le Macchiole’s Merlot since 1994

Messorio is the 100% Merlot of Le Macchiole, and 1994 was its first vintage. The estate is in Bolgheri and was founded in 1983 by Eugenio Campolmi and Cinzia Merli. The bottle is a dry red in the 0.75 L format.

The estate began with 4 hectares of vineyard in 1983. As of 2025 Cinzia Merli owns and leads it, and annual production is about 190,000 bottles. The estate now farms about 35 hectares of vineyard, and its address is Via Bolgherese 189/a, Bolgheri, in the province of Livorno. Today Messorio comes from two vineyards, Vignone, planted in 1999, and Ulivino, planted in 2016.

The label reads Toscana IGT, not Bolgheri DOC.

Four parcels and new barriques for the 2006

The 2006 came from four parcels: Contessine, planted in 1983, Puntone (1994), Casa Nuova (1998) and Vignone (1999). Fermentation and maceration lasted 20 days. Contessine is the oldest of the four, planted in the year the estate began.

The wine then spent 16 months in new oak barriques and was bottled in July 2008.
