Category: Pauillac, Bordeaux, Cabernet Sauvignon, France, Grand Vin de Bordeaux, Merlot, Red, Wine

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2009 from Pauillac
The 2009 is the grand vin of Pichon Comtesse, a Second Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux classification. It is a dry red from Pauillac, built on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, in a 0.75 L bottle.

Pichon Comtesse under the Rouzaud family
The 2009 was produced under the Rouzaud family, owners of the Champagne house Louis Roederer. The family bought the estate in 2007. The estate was created in the late 17th century and split in 1850 into two properties, Pichon Comtesse and Château Pichon Baron. The two have different owners today.

Garonne gravel opposite Pichon Baron
The vineyard sits on Garonne gravel over clay and sand, opposite Château Pichon Baron and next to Château Latour. The second wine, Réserve de Pichon Comtesse, dates from 1973 and is a separate wine.
Pauillac is an appellation for still red wine only, in the central Médoc on the left bank of the Gironde estuary, in Bordeaux.

Pauillac 2009 on the vintage chart
The Robert Parker Wine Advocate vintage chart gives the Saint-Julien, Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe group a 99 for 2009 and the letter E, which stands for early maturing and accessible. That score describes the year, not this bottle.
Is the 2009 Pichon Comtesse ready to drink?
Our suggested window runs from 2020 to 2053, so the wine is already inside it. The chart letter E points the same way: the vintage is early maturing and accessible.
