Who made the 2001
The 2001 was produced while May-Eliane de Lencquesaing owned the estate. She led it from 1978 until the sale to the Rouzaud family, who also run the Champagne house Louis Roederer. The sale took place in 2007.
Pichon Comtesse is a Second Growth (Deuxième Cru) of the 1855 classification. It stands opposite Château Pichon Baron and next to Château Latour. The estate’s second wine is Réserve de Pichon Comtesse, created in 1973. The Rouzaud family still owns Pichon Comtesse today. Pichon Baron is a separate estate with a different owner: the original property was split into the two in 1850. The estate’s vines are planted at 9,000 vines per hectare. Pichon Baron is owned by AXA Millésimes, while Pichon Comtesse stays with the Rouzaud family. Both properties trace back to the same original estate, which was divided in 1850, and the two châteaux still face each other across the road in Pauillac.
