This is a 1.5 L bottle of Château Pavie 2006, a red from Saint-Émilion sold under the Grand Cru appellation. Our suggested drinking window is 2016 to 2035, so the wine is inside it today. It is made from Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

2006 in Saint-Émilion
Saint-Émilion Grand Cru is a separate, more restrictive appellation than plain Saint-Émilion, established in 1984, and it is the appellation named in the title of this bottle.
The vintage chart scores Saint-Émilion 2006 at 88 and marks it with the letter E, which stands for early maturing and accessible. That score describes the appellation in that year, not this bottle.

Pavie’s rank when the 2006 was made
Pavie was a Premier Grand Cru Classé “B” from the first Saint-Émilion classification in 1955 until 2012, when it was raised to Premier Grand Cru Classé “A”. In the 2022 classification only Pavie and Château Figeac held the “A” rank.

Who owned Pavie in 2006
Gérard and Chantal Perse bought the estate in 1998, so the 2006 was made under their ownership.
Where Pavie’s vines grow today
The vines lie in one block south-east of the town of Saint-Émilion, rising from the foot of the slope to the limestone plateau, on clay-limestone over asteriated limestone at the top and sandy soils lower down. The estate farms 42 hectares and ages Château Pavie in 70% to 100% new oak for 18 to 32 months, depending on the vintage.
