Haut-Brion: the First Growth outside the Médoc

Haut-Brion lies in Pessac, a few miles southwest of the centre of Bordeaux. It was ranked a Premier Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Classification, the only red-wine estate outside the Médoc in that ranking. It is also classified for its red wine in the Graves classification of 1953, revised in 1959. The 1855 ranking is shown in our 1er Cru Classé range.

The vineyard covers 51 ha, 48 ha of it red varieties. The topsoil is gravel made of small quartz pebbles, on clay, sand and limestone. The Dillon family has owned the estate since 1935.
