Pichon Comtesse next to Latour, across from Pichon Baron

The estate lies in Pauillac, opposite Château Pichon Baron and next to Château Latour. Both Pichon properties come from one estate of about 80 ha that was divided in 1850, and both were ranked Second Growths five years later. They are separate properties today with different owners.

They are the two Second Growths of Pauillac, a commune whose vineyards lie on gravel terraces. The soils there are mainly gravel, sand and clay.

Pichon Comtesse in 2006: the last Lencquesaing vintage

The sale took place in 2007, so the 2006 was the last vintage made under May-Eliane de Lencquesaing, who had led the estate since 1978. The buyers were the Rouzaud family, who also run the Champagne house Louis Roederer.
