ROBERT PARKER ” Tenuta San Guido’s newest release is the 2012 Bolgheri Sassicaia. This was a warm vintage, especially during summer months that saw hot winds and little rain. Thankfully, winter months delivered ample precipitation. Vines had good access to moisture underground. Production of the lower-tier wines was reduced: Le Difese was cut by 40% and Guidalberto by 30%. But Sassicaia’s production numbers remained stable at 200,000 bottles because all the estate’s best fruit was directed toward this product. Fruit was harvested a bit early to avoid problems with over ripeness. The wine presents a soft, velvety mouthfeel with plump cherry, fruity berry, blue flower and spice. Perhaps it shows more simplicity overall, but it does so with an impressive sense of harmony and confidence. This is not one of the great vintages of Sassicaia, but the wine flaunts its considerable pedigree nonetheless. It should age gracefully for twenty years or more. “

Key Features & Benefits
Tenuta San Guido’s Bolgheri Sassicaia 2012 stands out due to its meticulous production and unique terroir. Born from the Bolgheri region’s gravel-rich soils and maritime climate, this wine benefits from ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc to fully ripen. The 2012 vintage, known for its warm and dry growing season, yielded grapes of exceptional concentration and phenolic maturity, resulting in a wine of remarkable structure and depth. Crafted with traditional winemaking techniques combined with modern precision, the grapes are carefully selected and fermented, followed by aging in French oak barriques.
This process imparts nuanced oak notes, enhances the wine’s complexity, and ensures its longevity. The blend, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with a smaller percentage of Cabernet Franc, is a hallmark of Sassicaia, contributing to its signature elegance and aromatic finesse. Each bottle is a testament to Tenuta San Guido’s unwavering commitment to quality and innovation, delivering a wine that is both powerful and refined.

Heritage & Collectibility
Sassicaia is not just a wine; it is a cornerstone of Italian wine history. Tenuta San Guido, established in Bolgheri by Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, pioneered the Super Tuscan movement, defying traditional Italian wine regulations to create Bordeaux-style blends. Sassicaia, first commercially released in 1968, quickly gained international acclaim and established Bolgheri as a world-class wine region. The 2012 vintage continues this prestigious legacy, representing a benchmark year highly rated by critics and sought after by collectors globally.
Its consistent high scores, limited production, and iconic status make Vintage Sassicaia 2012 a highly collectible asset. Owning a bottle of Sassicaia 2012 is not just possessing a fine wine, but also a piece of Italian wine heritage, reflecting decades of tradition, innovation, and unparalleled quality.
