Screaming Eagle 2015 from Oakville: a drought-year red with a window to 2048
Screaming Eagle is an estate in the Oakville AVA of Napa Valley. This is the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, in a 0.75 L bottle. The grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

A drought-year 2015 with a small crop
2015 was the fourth consecutive drought year in Napa. Cool, windy weather during the May bloom limited the size of the crop, and a warm, dry summer followed. The drinking window is 2022–2048, so the wine is inside it now.

An Oakville vineyard of more than 50 blocks
Jean Phillips bought the Oakville property in 1986, and the first Screaming Eagle vintage was made in 1992, about 175 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard is divided into more than 50 blocks, planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with a small area of Sauvignon Blanc. The whole vineyard was replanted in 1995, and 34 acres were replanted again in 2006. The soils are described as rocky and well drained, a gravelly loam on a west-facing slope.

Owners and winemaker
Stan Kroenke bought the estate in March 2006 together with Charles Banks, and has been sole proprietor since April 2009. Nick Gislason has led the winemaking since 2011, with Michel Rolland as consulting winemaker.
The Napa Valley label
A bottle labelled “Napa Valley” must contain at least 85% grapes grown inside the AVA. Cabernet Sauvignon is the most planted variety there, at 54% of plantings.
