The Richebourg parcel behind the 1996

The vines were planted in 1949, so they were 47 years old at the 1996 harvest. Étienne’s father bought the parcel in 1984; Étienne ran the estate from 1987 until 2017, when his daughter Mathilde and her brother Hubert took full charge. The family’s first plot in Clos de Vougeot dates to 1919, when Gaston Grivot bought it; the estate’s Clos de Vougeot holding is now 1.86 ha. Domaine Jean Grivot is based in Vosne-Romanée and farms 15.5 ha across Vosne-Romanée, Vougeot, Chambolle-Musigny and Nuits-Saint-Georges. The estate holds three Grand Cru parcels: Richebourg, Échezeaux and Clos de Vougeot.

Richebourg among the grands crus of Vosne-Romanée

Richebourg is one of six grand cru appellations in the commune of Vosne-Romanée, alongside Romanée-Conti, La Romanée, La Tâche, Romanée-Saint-Vivant and La Grande Rue. It lies in the Côte de Nuits, which makes mainly red wine from Pinot Noir. The Richebourg parcel is much smaller than the estate’s 1.86 ha in Clos de Vougeot.
