Faiveley Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru 2013 in a 0.75 L bottle
Chambertin-Clos de Bèze is one of nine grand cru appellations in Gevrey-Chambertin. Gevrey-Chambertin lies in the Côte de Nuits, the Burgundy hillside running from Dijon to Corgoloin.
This bottle is the 2013 vintage, 0.75 L, made from 100% Pinot Noir. Our suggested drinking window is 2018 to 2040. In 2026 it is eight years into a 22-year window.
The Clos de Bèze holding
Domaine Faiveley has been the largest owner of the appellation since the 1930s. Faiveley’s Chambertin-Clos de Bèze comes from about 1.29 ha in three plots: Vieilles Vignes, Clos de Bèze Haut and Grands Rangs. The vines were planted between 1949 and 1983 on limestone soil.
The estate also lists a separate Chambertin Clos de Bèze “Les Ouvrées Rodin” in its range. This bottle is the Chambertin Clos de Bèze, not Les Ouvrées Rodin.
How 2013 played out on the Côte de Nuits
Erwan Faiveley said of 2013 that yields in the Côte de Nuits were “not bad”, while the Côte de Beaune was “terrible”. The Robert Parker Wine Advocate vintage chart gives Côte de Nuits red 2013 a score of 92 and the letter E, which means early maturing and accessible.
The estate scheduled the 2013 grands crus for bottling from mid-February 2015 to the end of April.
Faiveley in Nuits-Saint-Georges since 1825
Domaine Faiveley was founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley in Nuits-Saint-Georges. It is family-owned, and Erwan Faiveley has run it since December 2004. The estate farms more than 120 ha of vines, with holdings in 12 grands crus.
