The vineyard of Château Saint-Pierre covers 17 hectares in Bordeaux, and it is the smallest of the 1855 classified growths in Saint-Julien.

Fifty-year-old vines on the Beychevelle plateau

Most of the vines stand on the Beychevelle plateau in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle, on Günzian gravel over a sandy-clay subsoil. The vines average about 50 years old and the grapes are picked by hand. The estate ages its grand vin 14 to 16 months in oak, about half new.

Fourth Growth since 1855

The estate was ranked Fourth Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux classification. Archives from 1693 record a wine estate here called Serançan, owned by the Marquis de Cheverry. It takes its name from Baron de Saint-Pierre, who bought it in 1767. The estate was divided among his heirs in 1832 and largely reunited in 1922 by the Belgian négociants Pierre and Charles Van den Bussche. Henri Martin bought it in 1982 and rebuilt its 1855 boundaries. His family, today the Triaud family, still owns it.
