Colgin Cellars Tychson Hill Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

Tychson Hill, from 1860 to the 2003 bottling
The history of the site dates to 1860; it was first planted in 1861 and replanted in 1881. In the 1880s it was owned and farmed by Josephine Tychson, the first woman to build a winery in the Napa Valley. The vines were pulled out during Prohibition. Colgin bought the property in 1996 and in 1997 replanted 3.5 acres with heritage clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, naming the site Tychson Hill. The first Tychson Hill vintage was 2000, so 2003 is the vineyard’s fourth.
How 2003 ran on Tychson Hill
2003 began with heat in March and a wet April. The summer was long and cool. Heat returned in September and brought harvest forward.
Colgin Cellars: LVMH stake and mailing list
Ann Colgin founded Colgin Cellars in 1992; the winery is based in St. Helena. In November 2017 she and Joe Wender agreed to sell 60 percent of the winery to LVMH and kept 40 percent. Distribution is limited to a mailing list and select restaurants, and tastings are not open to the public.
