The 2013 harvest at Margaux

2013 cannot claim to be a great vintage. A cool spring delayed flowering by about ten days. The white grapes were picked from 19 to 27 September and the red from 30 September to 11 October. Only 38% of the harvest went into the grand vin.

Where the 2013’s Cabernet comes from

The estate’s soils combine Tertiary limestone and clay with Quaternary gravel, sand and clay from the Garonne terraces. Of the 126 vineyard plots the estate maps, 72 are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate has 87 hectares of red vines in production, with an average vine age of 35 years. Across the Margaux appellation, Cabernet Sauvignon covers close to 60% of the vineyard area.

Château Margaux is the only First Growth of the appellation in the 1855 classification, a rank listed on this site under 1er Grand Cru Classé. The appellation sits in Bordeaux.
