The estate ages its wines in 100% new Taransaud barrels for 18 to 19 months and bottles them unfiltered. Unfiltered bottles can throw sediment with age, so stand the bottle upright for a day or two before opening.
Paradise Hills Vineyard in Napa Valley
The Blankiets bought an unplanted hillside above the Napanook vineyard in Yountville in January 1996 and named it Paradise Hills. The neighbouring Napanook vineyard was originally planted in 1838 by George C. Yount. Of the 46 acres, 16 acres (6.5 ha) are planted, in the western foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains with an eastern exposure. Soils run from fractured rock and volcanic ash to thick clay across three volcanic knolls. Viticulturist David Abreu and winemaker Helen Turley were brought in to develop the vineyard into four sections. The wine carries the Napa Valley AVA in California, which requires at least 85% of the grapes to come from within the AVA boundaries.
