The Macallan Edition No. 2: the 2016 Roca brothers release

Edition No. 2 was released in 2016 as a collaboration with the Roca brothers of El Celler de Can Roca. This bottle holds 0.7 L of single malt at 48.2% ABV.

It is the second of six releases in the Macallan Edition series. The series ended with Edition No. 6, released on 29 September 2020 at 48.6% ABV as the last of the run, so No. 2 belongs to a closed line.

Edition No. 2 beside the later Editions

Edition No. 3 followed in 2017 with the perfumer Roja Dove at 48.3% ABV, and No. 4 in 2018 paid tribute to the architecture of the new distillery. No. 5 came in September 2019 at 48.5% ABV with a packaging colour created by the Pantone Color Institute, which left No. 6 to close the run. At 48.2% ABV, No. 2 sits 0.1 to 0.4 points below each of No. 3 to No. 6.

The Macallan and the Speyside name

The Macallan is a Speyside distillery at Easter Elchies, Craigellachie, Moray, owned by Edrington. Edition No. 4 in 2018 was a tribute to the architecture of its new distillery building, so the series that Edition No. 2 opened with the Roca brothers later turned to the home of the whisky itself. The Edition run is now complete.

Because The Macallan is at Easter Elchies, this bottle carries the Speyside name, which the Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009 protect as a region. The regulations also protect the Highland and Lowland regions, so a Scotch label carries a legally defined origin.
