Macduff and the Glen Deveron name

Macduff distillery was founded in 1960, and production began in 1963. The distillery stands near the mouth of the River Deveron, on the northern edge of Aberdeenshire. It runs two wash stills and three spirit stills.

Ownership changed several times. William Lawson Distillers acquired it in 1972, it joined the Martini & Rossi group in 1980, and after Bacardi took over Martini & Rossi, John Dewar & Sons took charge of Macduff. It remains part of the Bacardi group today.

A five-year-old for the Italian market, before The Deveron

A five and an eight year old were early members of the Glen Deveron range, in line with the Italian market’s taste for young malts. The official single malt was relaunched as The Deveron in October 2015, so Glen Deveron bottlings such as this one belong to the earlier labelling.

Macduff’s coast in the Eastern Highlands
