Why Lucien Le Moine is not a domaine

Lucien Le Moine is a négociant-éleveur in Beaune, founded in 1999 by Mounir and Rotem Saouma. It owns no vineyards in Burgundy and buys wine from growers after fermentation.

In Burgundy the house makes only Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines from the Côte d’Or, at most 100 barrels (about 30,000 bottles) a year. It makes one to three barrels per cru, with no blending between barrels. Its barrels are made from Jupilles oak, the wines stay on their lees without racking, and they are bottled neither fined nor filtered.
