Échezeaux in Flagey-Échezeaux

Échezeaux is one of two grand crus of the commune of Flagey-Échezeaux; the other is Grands Échezeaux. It belongs to the Côte de Nuits, a hillside that produces mainly red wine from Pinot Noir. The appellation was created in 1937 and is classified Grand Cru.

Rouget’s parcels in Échezeaux

Domaine Emmanuel Rouget is based in Flagey-Échezeaux. Emmanuel Rouget is the nephew of Henri Jayer and trained under him. The domaine holds about 1.4 ha of Échezeaux Grand Cru, and its Échezeaux comes from parcels in Les Cruots and Les Treux. The appellation covered 34.79 ha in production in 2008 and had about 80 owners in the early 2000s, so 1.4 ha is a small share of it. Rouget began producing wine on his own account in 1985, and in 1996 Henri Jayer transferred his vineyards to him. The estate destems its grapes and ferments them in concrete vats.
