Where Ruchottes-Chambertin sits in the Côte de Nuits

The Côte de Nuits is a hillside about 20 km long that runs from Dijon in the north to Corgoloin in the south. It holds 24 grand cru appellations in six communes and produces mainly red wine from Pinot Noir. The vineyard soils are thin, generally calcareous and well drained, and the climate is cool oceanic with continental and southern influences.

In Burgundy, the regional wine bureau counts “Côte de Nuits & Hautes Côtes de Nuits” as one of the five wine-growing regions of Bourgogne.

The 2017 vintage in the Côte de Nuits

The Robert Parker Wine Advocate vintage chart gives Côte de Nuits red 2017 a score of 93, with the letter E, which the chart defines as early maturing and accessible. That 93 is a regional vintage score, not a score for this bottle.

Mugneret-Gibourg’s 0.60 ha at the foot of Ruchottes

The domaine is based in Vosne-Romanée. André Mugneret and Jeanne Gibourg created it in 1933. It acquired its 0.60 ha of Ruchottes-Chambertin in 1977.

The Ruchottes-Chambertin is bottled unfined and unfiltered. The estate’s grand crus receive up to 70% new oak.

The sisters Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée run the estate today, together with the next generation of the family.
