Côte de Nuits 2013 on the Robert Parker Wine Advocate vintage chart

Domaine de L’Arlot Romanée-Saint-Vivant 2013: a Grand Cru across the road from Romanée-Conti

The estate’s Romanée-Saint-Vivant parcel faces Romanée-Conti across a road. Domaine de L’Arlot bought it in 1990 from a grower in Aloxe-Corton, and its first vintage from it was 1991. This 2013 is a dry red of 100% Pinot Noir in a 0.75 L bottle, labelled Grand Cru.

Our suggested drinking window for the 2013 is 2018–2036, so the wine is inside it today.

Romanée-Saint-Vivant in Vosne-Romanée

The vineyard lies in the commune of Vosne-Romanée and adjoins Romanée-Conti, La Grande Rue and Richebourg. It covers about 9.3 to 9.4 hectares shared among several owners, and L’Arlot is one of them. The appellation was created in 1936 and allows Pinot Noir, with a minimum potential alcohol of 11.5% and a base yield of 35 hl/ha. The soil of its parcel is a mixture of clay and limestone.

The estate in Prémeaux

Domaine de L’Arlot is based in Prémeaux, just south of Nuits-Saint-Georges, in the Côte de Nuits of Burgundy. AXA Millésimes has owned it since 1987. Christian Seely oversees it and Géraldine Godot is winemaker and technical manager. The estate works organically and largely biodynamically, and says it has no wish to be certified.

15 months in 228-litre barrels, half of them new

For its current vintages the estate destems fully and ferments spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in wooden vats for 20 days, then ages the wine for 15 months in 228-litre French oak barrels, half of them new. Those details come from a later vintage than 2013, so the 2013 may have been handled differently.

Côte de Nuits red 2013: early maturing and accessible

The Wine Advocate vintage chart rates Côte de Nuits red 2013 at 92 and describes the year as early maturing and accessible. That is a rating of the region’s year, not a score for this bottle.
