Ruinart Blanc de Blancs Brut NV: 100% Chardonnay, 7 g/L dosage
This non-vintage Ruinart Blanc de Blancs Brut is made only from Chardonnay, blended from 25 to 30 crus. They come mainly from the Côte des Blancs, the Montagne de Reims, the Sézannais and the Vallée de la Vesle. The bottle is 0.75 L and the wine is 12.5% vol.
Between 20 and 30% of the blend is reserve wine from several vintages, so the cuvée carries no vintage year.
Hand-harvested, steel-fermented, 2 to 3 years in the cellars
The grapes are hand-harvested. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and the wine goes through malolactic fermentation. It then ages 2 to 3 years in the cellars.
Dosage is 7 g/L, a Brut level.
Ruinart since 1729: Saint-Nicaise hill and 8 km of crayères
Maison Ruinart was founded in Reims on 1 September 1729, when Nicolas Ruinart drafted its founding charter. The house takes its inspiration from the Benedictine monk Dom Thierry Ruinart (1657–1709). In 1768 it became the first Champagne house to move to the Saint-Nicaise hill, after buying land and former chalk quarries there.
Its chalk cellars, dug by hand, run over more than 8 km on three levels, and the highest chamber measures 38 m. They have been a protected historic monument since 1931. Ruinart belongs to LVMH’s Moët Hennessy division.
