The estate behind the 2017 Richebourg

The estate is based in Vosne-Romanée, at 11, rue des Grands Crus. It descends from the holdings of Étienne Camuzet, who was mayor of Vosne-Romanée and left the estate to his daughter in 1946. After her death in 1959 it passed to Jean Méo, and it was renamed Méo-Camuzet in 1981.

Henri Jayer farmed most of the vineyards under a sharecropping agreement from 1945 until 1987. The estate’s own Richebourg had its first commercial vintage in 1985, and Jayer made the Richebourg vintages from 1985 to 1988. Jean-Nicolas Méo, Jean’s son, runs the estate today.

Méo-Camuzet in the cellar: 15 to 18 months in oak

The estate hand-harvests and sorts the grapes at the vine. Whole-cluster fermentation is used selectively, depending on the vintage. Wines age 15 to 18 months in oak barrels, with new oak between 50 and 100% depending on the cuvée. The wine is bottled without filtration.
