Meursault Les Narvaux 2009 from Domaine d’Auvenay
Les Narvaux is a village-level lieu-dit sited above the Meursault premier crus, and this 2009 is a dry white made from Chardonnay. It carries the Appellation Meursault Contrôlée and is not a premier or grand cru. Like every parcel of Domaine d’Auvenay, it is farmed biodynamically.

From Maison Leroy to Auvenay, 1955–1992
Lalou Bize-Leroy joined her father Henri Leroy’s négociant business, Maison Leroy, in 1955 and took over its management in 1971. In 1988 she founded Domaine Leroy and set up Domaine d’Auvenay as an independent estate. The first Auvenay vintage, 1989, came from the historic Leroy family holding plus a newly acquired plot of Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières. Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet followed in 1990 and Chevalier-Montrachet in 1992.
The estate is at Saint-Romain, on the plateau in the hills above the village, and the wines are vinified there. The domaine is small, about 4 ha of vines. Its grand cru holdings are Chevalier-Montrachet, Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bonnes-Mares and Mazis-Chambertin. Les Narvaux sits at the other end of the range, among the village appellations that also include Puligny-Montrachet and Auxey-Duresses.

The 2009 season in Burgundy
Violent storms hit in mid-July 2009. Hot, dry weather then held until mid-October, and the harvest ran from mid-September to early October. The white wines of the year are rich, with intense ripe-fruit aromas and a rounded, fleshy palate balanced by lasting vigour.
The Wine Advocate vintage chart rates white Burgundy 2009 in the Côte de Beaune at 91, with the letter E: early maturing and accessible. The 91 scores the white Côte de Beaune harvest as a whole.
