Chambolle-Musigny in the Côte de Nuits

Chambolle-Musigny lies in the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy, the hillside of the Côte-d’Or that runs from Dijon in the north to Corgoloin in the south. The Côte de Nuits produces mainly red wines from Pinot Noir, on thin, generally calcareous, well-drained soils. Two grand cru appellations belong to the commune: Musigny, and part of Bonnes-Mares, which it shares with Morey-Saint-Denis.

Musigny and Bonnes-Mares are two of the 24 grand cru appellations of the Côte de Nuits, which lie in six communes. The vineyards of the Côte de Nuits form a strip about 20 km long that narrows in places to about 200 m wide, on a tectonic escarpment between the Hautes Côtes plateaus to the west and the Bresse plain to the east. The Climats of the Burgundy vineyards, which cover the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on 4 July 2015.
