Sine Qua Non Veiled Shea Vineyard 1998: a Pinot Noir from the winery’s Oregon years
Veiled is the 1998 Pinot Noir that Sine Qua Non made from Shea Vineyard in the Willamette Valley, Yamhill County, Oregon. It has 14.0% alcohol and comes in a 0.75 L bottle.
The winery focuses on Rhône varieties, mainly Syrah and Grenache. Sine Qua Non made Pinot Noir from 1996 to 2005, and Veiled comes from its Oregon years. Shea Vineyard is in the Willamette Valley, Yamhill County, Oregon; this is not a California wine.
Each Sine Qua Non wine long carried its own name, label and bottle style; in 2021 the winery announced it would no longer give each bottling a unique name, because new names were hard to register. Veiled is one of those individually named bottles, made in the USA (see American wines).

Shea Vineyard’s Wädenswil block and the warm 1998 season
Shea Vineyard fruit for Sine Qua Non came from a 4-acre section planted to the Wädenswil clone of Pinot Noir. 1998 was a warm vintage at Shea, just short of 2003 in seasonal heat.

Where Veiled sits in the Pinot Noir run
Sine Qua Non made Pinot Noir from 1996 to 2005. The first Pinot was Left Field from Shea Vineyard in 1996, 96 cases. Veiled was made in 1998. The last Shea vintage was 2003, called Omega, and the final Pinot, Over & Out in 2005, used Santa Rita Hills fruit. Sine Qua Non no longer makes Pinot Noir.
